Members of Out Of Foster Foundation's (formerly MagicWaste Youth Foundation) Board of Directors and an Excalibur Project Scholar speak about the foundation's mission and its impact.
An ambitious master plan where commitment, education, housing, training, opportunity, and hard work come together to forge our community's future leaders.
Through The Excalibur Project®, Out Of Foster Foundation —formerly MagicWaste Youth Foundation— is assisting former foster youths with vital issues, such as education and affordable housing, so they can develop to their full potential. These are some of its features:
• Subsidies towards safe, affordable housing for these otherwise homeless young men and women;
• Scholarships and other higher education opportunities.
• Access to training and instructional sessions with professionals, educators, entrepreneurs, and public officials.
• Guidance with work and life skills, including but not limited to resume composition, comprehensive job interview preparation and more.
• Commitment to community work and involvement.
• Adherence to The Excalibur Project® Code of Conduct, with specific guidelines regarding cleanliness; discipline and ethics; curfew; non-violence/no-drugs-or-alcohol agreement; college attendance and performance requirements; personal space and general upkeep responsibilities, etc.
Approved candidates, named EXCALIBUR Project SCHOLARS, are paired with funding from OOFF benefactors like you, whose donations will subsidize their rent for 12 months.

Approximately 300 young men and women exit the system every year, many of whom are homeless or living in dire, dangerous or unstable circumstances.
On July 1, 2019, Citrus Family Care Network (Citrus FCN) officially became the Community Based Care (CBC) Lead Agency for child welfare services in Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties. The Florida Department of Children and Families (FDCF) contracts with CBC Lead Agencies across the state to provide child welfare services in their local communities for children who have been abused, neglected and/or abandoned. As Lead Agency, Citrus FCN manages foster care and related services for this area.
In 2020, OOFF entered into an unprecedented partnership with Citrus FCN to assist local young adults with their independent living pursuits.
Throughout the year, Citrus FCN works closely with OOFF, providing it with relevant information regarding prospective candidates —young adults who are emerging out of the area's foster care system— for consideration for the EXCALIBUR PROJECT.
Armed with input from Citrus FCN's foster care system managers, counselors, and experts, Out Of Foster Foundation proceeds with a meticulous applicant selection process, for which candidates must meet or exceed EXCALIBUR’s pre-requisites, which include academic performance, personal conduct, volunteer work, etc.
OOFF and Citrus FCN jointly oversee the EXCALIBUR Scholars' (subsidy recipients) performance as he/she participates in the program , ensuring that all standards and requirements are upheld.
This OOFF/MWYF program funds six (6) scholarships at Miami Dade College directed to support former foster youths' path to success through higher education.
Dignity is essential in developing self-respect, confidence —and our duffel bags keep foster kids' belongings organized and private as they move from one home or facility to another.
Our partners at SYNOVUS BANK guide the young adults through the 4-1-1 of money management, enabling them to make smart, informed decisions about their resources.
Facing the real world is daunting for any young adult, more so for those who have limited guidance on how to compose a résumé, dress and present themselves for a job interview.
South Florida businesses benefit from the incredible potential that these former foster youths bring to the table —if given the chance and the proper guidance. Help them succeed!
It is a prototype for future projects —a privately-funded transformation of the underutilized surface parking lot of the Palmetto MetroRail Station just off NW 74th Street into a vibrant, mixed-use, transit-oriented development with a rent-restricted housing program, including units for OOFF/MWYF's EXCALIBUR PROJECT.
